A Cooperative Effort Between the Division of Federal Programs, PDE and the

PA Association of Federal Program Coordinators (PAFPC)

DATE & TIME: November 2,, 2018. This intensive 3 ½ hour workshop will begin at 9:00 a.m. and conclude at 12:30 p.m. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.

Overview: This coordinated training session will address the significant requirements from the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and Uniform Grant Guidance (UGG) that impact the administration and instruction in charter schools. The content will focus on critical information charter school staff need to know to avoid noncompliance issues during Federal Programs Monitoring visits.

Background:  Currently, PDE records show that as many as 50% of the Charter Schools have not attended any staff development workshops or training in the past 2 years regarding ESSA and UGG and the number of Charter Schools overall which are out of compliance grows larger each year as a result and may impact the reauthorization or charter renewal process with local school districts.

Purpose: The purpose of “The CHARTER SCHOOL PERSPECTIVE: ESSA and UGG” is to focus solely on the program components in the new Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), including Title I, Title II, Title III and Title IV, as well as the grant administration requirements that are addressed in the recently updated Uniform Grant Guidance.

The information presented in this session will assist Charter School’s staff in designing and implementing effective programs that fully utilize the increased flexibility that is available under ESSA, while ensuring that the effective administration of the grants is based on sound fiscal principles. Staff from the PA Department of Education and PAFPC will conduct this workshop at no cost to charter school staff.

Location: The workshop will be held at an easy access location at the Sheraton Station Square Hotel in Pittsburgh, PA. Address: 300 W Station Square Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15219

Registration: Registration opens September 29th. Go to: www.pafpc.org. Under the Trainings heading, click on Charter School Perspective. Registration ends October 29, 2018.
