The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) is the organization which represents the Secretaries or Commissioners of Education from various states. Dr. Jerry Zahorchak, our Secretary of Education, represents Pennsylvania. He is an active member and leader in the CCSSO. The CCSSO recently released their priorities for reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (formerly called NCLB). Of course, since the CCSSO represents the leadership of states, the support for increased authority of states is endorsed by the organization.
When Dr. Zahorchak spoke last week at our annual PAFPC conference he addressed his work at CCSSO, President Obama’s blueprint for NCLB, and the goals of Pennsylvania. In many ways, he thought the blueprint and CCSSO’s priorities were aligned with Pennsylvania’s work in education and particularly with Pennsylvania’s Race to The Top application for funds.
